Where you can help
Office – Office assistance is needed for a variety of office tasks, including mailings, distribution and collection of course evaluations, taking pictures of classes, and directing visitors to classes and workshops.
Brochure and Poster Delivery – The LBIF brochure is distributed throughout Long Beach Island and in the surrounding communities. Volunteer an hour or two and deliver the LBIF brochure to your favorite restaurant, deli, store, or business.
Facilities – Help beautify the LBIF buildings and grounds. Projects include painting, yard work, and general facilities assistance. We are currently looking for volunteers who would be willing to lend a hand with the painting of our buildings and classrooms.
Gallery – The installation of the LBIF exhibitions is not possible without the support of volunteers. Assistance is needed to hang and take down various exhibitions throughout the year.
Summer Camp – The LBIF relies greatly on the support of volunteer efforts year round, but especially in the summer. Our Counselor in Training program (CIT) is great for teens and young adults to get exposure to responsibility and team building by working closely with our assistants and instructors at our Children’s Summer Camp. As a CIT, you will get the chance to work with one of our camps: Tiny Tykes, Early Birds, Creative Arts and Crafts, Marine Biology and Nature Studies. All of the camps have different age ranges and fun and interesting projects that they work on each week that the CIT’s would get to be a part of. This is especially great for those who may be interested in working at camp one day, but are not yet old enough. The CIT’s can volunteer on a daily or weekly basis, either for the whole summer or for certain dates of their interest. As a CIT, you get a schedule of what exactly you will be doing at camp and what your role will be during the time you are volunteering. Your hours are tracked and approved by our Camp Coordinator, so that you can use them towards community service or volunteer credits in the future. You also get an LBIF T-Shirt and you get to experience what it is like to be a part of the LBIF family. What could be better! Sign up to be a CIT today! Email Alison Bozoski email@example.com with any questions.
During the months of June through August the LBIF has many special events that rely on the assistance of volunteers.
Barnegat Bay Day – Wednesday, July 5, 2017. This family-friendly event takes over the entire LBIF! Assistance is needed throughout the day to assist the LBIF Staff and Science Committee.
Fine Arts Festival – Saturday and Sunday, July 22nd & 23rd. Our Fine Arts Festival is a curated show consisting of jewelry, wood, ceramics, photography, clothing and painting. This event of one of the LBIF’s largest fundraiser and volunteers are needed throughout each day of the weekend to help ensure its success. Some areas of importance are ticket collecting, serving ice cream, assisting at the membership table and more.
Open House Tour – Wednesday, August 2, 2017 is the 51th Annual Seashore Open House Tour. The Seashore Open House Tour boasts six exquisite homes that capture the history and architecture of the island chosen for their unique style, lush landscaping, and dynamic interior décor. Volunteers are needed for short shifts at each home and at the LBIF during the course of the Open House Tour.
